Partner focus: Proud Pie

As much as we love selling directly to our customers, wholesale coffee is a major part of our business. And, we are very lucky to partner with great restaurants who feature my coffee and share it with more people.

Today I want to talk about Proud Pie, located at 3522 South Mason Road, Katy, TX 77450. They have taken a simple idea (pie and coffee) and made it shine. They only opened last Fall, but they are quickly making a name for themselves in Katy, (and buying more and more of my coffee!). I met Scott, the owner/operator through my accountant. And we have been on the same page about coffee since the beginning. Scott is focused on making the best pies possible, and he wanted a coffee that would compliment his great pies. We settled on a selection of six different single origins and blends from my lineup, including my popular Handlebar Espresso Blend for the espresso drinks.

Last time I went in to make a delivery I got to talk with Scott and check in on the coffee program. He told me a few really great things. 1. He has been selling all our coffees about equal, which makes me very happy to know that people are trying the wide selection of origins and roasts that I have to offer. 2. He told me that he has been really happy with how the coffee pairs with the all-butter crust that they make for each of their pies. It is great to hear that my coffee is enhancing the pie experience.

Part of what we do as a company is lend our expertise as baristas and coffee roasters to working businesses to help them make simple, yet effective changes that increase the quality of their coffee program. Scott ran into a problem early on, and he came to me to help solve it. He has a set of Curtis G3 brewers that make each cup fresh, to order. But it took his baristas too much time to weigh and grind each cup for each customer in their fast-paced environment. Scott and I worked out a plan to use a small, dedicated grinder for each type of coffee. So in the next few weeks, Scott will have a line of seven Baratza Virtuoso grinders. This allows for maximum speed and efficiency while keeping the coffee as fresh as it can be! I am super excited to see how this works for them. I am also very thankful that Proud Pie is willing to invest in great equipment to make my coffee shine. In my book, its a win-win for both of us, but sometimes that is hard to see when you are trying to run a restaurant, so major props to Scott and his team! I really think they have a concept that is going to last and is going to make a lot of people happy.

If you have not had a chance to check out Proud Pie, I highly recommend it! And if you don't live in Katy, believe me it is worth the drive. My personal favorites so far are the Coconut Cream Pie and the Key Lime Pie, but I can't wait to try more.

In case you were wondering, here is the current line-up of my coffees that are at Proud Pie, both by the cup and by the bag.
